Quiddage Writing

"Quiddage! Yippee!", everyone would shout at 11:00am every Friday.

The atmosphere is just fantastic! Everyone is so excited but not too over the top about it, there's a great "lift" in everyone's personality and we're all here for the same reason; to have FUN!!
And that's exactly it; FUN!!

Our shop; L@ Soupers, is always SOOOOOOO busy, we have customers everywhere! And it's even harder when us four girls (Luce, Zia, Grace and I) are all Bank Tellers as well.
But I don't mind it's all doing us lots of good and teaching us how to spend and save our money in the BIG, WIDE WORLD, and like I said before it gives us all HUGE thrills nearly as big as ones you get at Disney Land.

Anyway that's just one of heaps of awesome things about QZealand!!!

Dialogue Writing

"Hey Binky, what are you up to today?" asked Pip in a voice that suggested she was up to something yet again.
"Um...Well I havn't decided if I am yet, it depends on what you're planning", replied Binky looking slightly worried.
"OK, listen up!"
"Riiiiight", Binky paused "Carry on."
"Well I was thinking..................................................We could go on a waterslide in the other Llama's paddock!"
"Have you thought of how we are going to make it exactly?"
"No."
"Have you thought of how we're going to get down there without the grumpy old farmer seeing us because you know what happens if he does?"
"No"
"Have you thought about that we have no water to do it with?"
"No"
"Well that was kinda stupid then wasn't it?"
"Yup"
"OK, I'll help you make the waterslide if you promise me that I don't have to go down it. Deal?"
"No"
"Oh Pip, stop being so difficult for once!"
"Fine, if you help, you don't have to go down", Pip huffed
“Good. Lets get to it. Pip, with your hoofs you need to dig a long hole that goes all the way down OUR hill”
“And I’ll go and watch for the grumpy old farmer”
“Alright! Lets have some fun!”

Athletics Writing

As I jog up to the starting line of our first activity, Sprints, I'm feeling nervous but excited because I have no idea where I'm going to come.

All of a sudden I hear a loud "Clap", woops I'm supposed to be running.
"Come on, come on!" I'm thinking as I start to motor and catch up with the others.
"Man, I never knew I could sprint so fast. Oh, there's the finish line. Yes!! I came 2nd, that means I'm into the semi-finals."

Now we're on to my favourite; Long Jump. It was over so quickly, literally all I did was run and jump.
Now that was a definate 3 for me, so off I potter and plonk down behind the 3.

Next is Shotput, unfortunately my least favourite.
"Oh no, these are the heaviest things ever!" I thought as I was trying to hold it in one hand.
Finally my arm went dead so I eventually managed to throw it.
"Two!" shouted Mrs Wiggins.
So, you know what happened next.

After Long Distance and Discus it was my next favourite; Hurdles.
Yet again the clappers went and this time I was actually awake.
"Huh, Slap, Huh, Slap!" was all I heard from my fellow competitors as I was leaping. When I crossed the line Mr McNaught yelled "Maddy and Ana."
Which meant I was into the semi-finals.
"Yippee!"

Now...For the most AWESOME one of all................................................HIGH JUMP!!!
I rushed over to the right hand side ready to go.
"First", TC announced "We'll start with 75cm."
"Oh, I was hoping it would be a little bit higher than that", I thought.
And as I said before I hardly even had to run to get over it.
The next level was 90cm.
"Yay! I made it over."
Next is my favourite level 1m.
"Ok, I've got to make this one. Here I go."
I run, I jump and I................................................................Make it!!
"Wohoo", I yell.

Athletics day was really cool. I reckon it was the best athletics day I've ever had at Riverdale!!:)

My Riverdale recount

Riverdale has been AMAZING for me.

From the day I walked through the doors of my own new, bright classroom I knew I was going to be very happy here.

Even though it was a little scary at first, by the third day I had settled in perfectly.

Every teacher has given me joy everyday and many fantastic opportunities like camp, speeches, Te Puawai, Interschools, Explorers, Choir, Electives, Duathlons, Cross Country, Productions, Quiddage-(since I was 6), many Y6 jobs, QZ Times Editor, Getting to choose our subjects for cool PI's, I still even remember my first field trip to an awesome farm with Mrs Walker!

I have had fun with every single person in this school and I just want to thank all the teachers and adults for helping me grow and challenging me to push myself further and further, and without you I would not be the same person I am today.
So thanks once again for an incredible journey through the first years of my school life. It has been a privilege to have been taught by Riverdale School.
But I know for sure that I will be back in the very near future (because I know I won't be able to keep away!)...........so WATCH OUT!

Production Writing

We were sitting there on the big, bright black stage singing our lovely waiata when all of a sudden the lights turned green.

We heard the audience hush and then Mrs Wimms presenting the raffles, Mrs T asked us to etu with our heads down wiriwiri and then we new that very soon the huge curtain would go up.

As Mrs Wimms was saying her last words about the raffles I was starting to get really excited.

I heard the audience clap for all the people that had won and then as they stopped the curtain lifted I saw the gold rim for about two seconds and then it was gone.

When the crowd saw us they all cheered and I had a little smile to myself thinking that they were all supporting us, very soon they hushed again as the putatara had started to play.

I felt my heart pounding in my chest with excitement and not many but a few nerves as well.

When Dionne started the karanga we lifted our heads and about 30secs later we started to sing.

I was so happy that we had started and I couldn't wait for the next energetic, enjoyable acts that I would be in.

From factual to descriptive with alliteration

"The music was loud. She felt like dancing."

1. The big, black and brown boom box was pouring out lovely, loud music like a bright, blue bubble machine. She felt like dancing around the room.

2. The shiny, silver stereo was pumping loud, long, love music. She felt like dancing slowly and sourly.

3. Pounding, pumping, pushing music was flowing out of the radio like beautiful, bold bees coming out of a bee hive. That made Liz feel like jumping and dancing joyfully around.

4. She felt like dancing scarily because the big, black, bold stereo was shouting out loud, cold, crackly music.

From factual to descriptive

"The wind blew. John was cold."

John was standing in the ice cold air. He was as freezing as snow or maybe even worse. The wind was blowing hard. It was like a hurricane was only a few metres away.

Autumn

17/5/10

Leaves fall off the trees onto the road like tissues, brown, red, yellow and orange. As you drive down the leaf filled street all you here is crunch, crackle, slide. When you walk through the bush by the river you can't see any of the stones because all the multy coloured, vibrant and dull leaves cover the ground. They smell fresh like someone has just bailed some hay. They look shiny and silky, but feel smooth and a bit crumpled.
I love walking through our paddock of long, green grass and smelling the cold air up in my nose, listening to the birds sing and bugs call, it's so nice out here in Autumn.
Everything is so free!

People of Afghanistan

I see fear in his eyes of war and attacks, he looks like he has seen a lot of them. Poor and homeless, living on the streets not getting any food for days with his grey fur rug looking like he has skinned an animal for it. Wisdom from his big, dark, browny-grey eyes that also look sad like he is trying to tell you something. His wrinkles look like cracks in his tissue-like skin. His dark features and long nose makes him look loving, kind and trustworthy. The grey turban on the top of his head makes him look like a smart genie.

My Story

The Taniwha of Lake Taupo

I love water skiing, it's one of my favourite sports beside dancing.
At this particular time it was summer of 2009 and the school holidays too. My family and I were up at the Lake staying in our holiday house.
Anyway, on Tuesday 2nd of January we were out on the water the whole day and it started at 8:00 with water skiing. I was up first and as I got into the water I thought I could see something long and green swimming about five metres under the water. I thought it must just be me seeing things so I jumped off the boat into the water. Dad threw me my ski's and I put them on then Mum threw me the rope and I grabbed it just as the boat started tugging me. And then I saw it again, the long, green thing swimming about five metres under the surface of the water. I quickly turned my head and yelled "YIP" to Dad and he revved the motor and I popped up out of the water. And then I saw something out of the corner of my eye, a fin?, no maybe a leaf? or a duck? What ever it was it seemed to be keeping up with me. I looked, definitely a fin. I tried to yell to Dad and Mum that there was something following me but they misunderstood and Dad slowed the motor and instead I sunk into the water. Then the thing pulled my ski's off and started swimming around and around my legs! "HELP" I screamed and Dad came whizzing back with the boat and grabbed my ski's and then me. As I got into the boat I felt the slime of the thing hanging down my legs. I told Mum and Dad what had happened as we slowly drove back to the boat ramp and guess what, the thing followed us, and when we were at the 200m buoy it popped its head out of the water and started splashing around and then it stopped and stared at us. The strange thing was it seemed to have a smile on its face! Then it started making a purring noise and rubbing its head on the side of the boat. "You know" said Dad "I think it just wants to be friends!"
And from that day on I played with Tazi the Taniwha of Lake Taupo everyday I was up there.

My Writing Plan

WALT:Create a picture using words

  1. I am at lake Taupo water skiing
  2. There is a Taniwha that follows me with it's fin sticking out of the water
  3. I let go of the ski rope and sink into the water and then the Taniwha starts circling me
  4. It ends up being a good Taniwha and just wants to be friends with me
